Yes We Can

Do you know what tomorrow is?

Well if you live in Washington State, you might answer that tomorrow is the Democratic Caucus - or if you’re my hubby, you’d answer that tomorrow is day two of the qualifiers for the Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt. Baker (guess who won’t be attending the Caucus?).

I’ll just take a moment to tell you how f’d up the Primary system is in this state. If you’re voting Republican, (dream on!) then your Primary ballots count toward determining your nominee. If you’re voting Democrat, then your Primary ballot is essentially useless and you have to schlep yourself over to your polling location to participate in the Caucus - only that supreme sacrifice on a SATURDAY will ensure that your voice is heard and your vote cast for the nominee of your choice.

Now you’re probably wondering if I’ll be making that sacrifice.. yes I will. Hubs is taking M. and Z. with him to the mountain so it’ll just be C. and I doing our bit for democracy.

And I have to say I’m peeved about it. We have to be there in the middle of the day and can’t get a clear picture of what we’re in for or how long it will last. That’s right folks, this will be my very first Caucus.

I hate waiting, I detest lines, and I want my almost kid-free day back to myself. I don’t have patience for time wasters - and forgive me if the thought of a Caucus makes your heart race - but that’s what this feels like to me, a waste of time. There’s a reason I vote by absentee ballot.

So enough complaining, you know what I’ll be doing this Saturday.

Now your next question might be “who will you be voting for?” And my answer would be, “I’m not sure yet but I’m definitely leaning in one direction.” It’s actually been a tough decision for me and I have to agree with Jenn over at She Likes Purple that it’s a relief to have a tough decision.

This election is a really big deal and I love that I have a difficult time choosing between two good candidates (Obama and Clinton). Such a better place than I was in during the last election when it felt like my only option was a guy who didn’t really inspire me but who was a much better choice than his opponent.

The place I’m in today is so different. It’s full of hope. There are options. And it feels like change is really possible.

So on that note, I’ll leave you with a video and a sentiment - both of which I personally find very inspiring.

“We are the people we have been waiting for.” - Hopi prayer
