Anyone who saw the Democratic Presidential Debate last night will understand what has me madder than a bee in a jar.
It was the last question of the evening and a woman stood up with a question just for Mrs. Clinton. She then proceeded to ask “which did she prefer, diamonds or pearls?”
WAS SHE KIDDING??
She has an opportunity to ask a question… face to face… of the people vying to be the “leader of the free world” and she wastes it on that airheaded blip about jewelry.
Not only did she squander a once in a lifetime opportunity but she made the rest of us (and by “us” I mean American women) look like complete bimbos.
Now I’m not Hillary’s biggest fan. Not that I wouldn’t take her over that idiot in the White House any day of the week… I’m just not sure if I would vote for her. I’m basing that on my feelings about her politics though NOT her gender. She is arguably the first woman in history to have a serious chance of being elected as the President of the United States. This is a BIG DEAL people and I have to give her props for posing a serious challenge to every man on that stage.
Women have to work harder to be taken seriously in every arena that is (or has been) dominated by men. And women like this question-asker certainly don’t make that any easier. If other women don’t take us seriously, how can we ever believe that men will?
Was it just me or did anyone else have a similar reaction when they heard that question last night?

I honestly didn’t see it but I would have been irrate I’m sure. So not the time, and why was she even there?
November 16th, 2007 at November 16, 2007 - 10:26 pmYes I really did but there are nitwits everywhere.it’s scary too how many women claim they know nothing about the candidates so they just vote the way their husbands do..can you see the steam comming out of my ears from there? I love voting but I put a lot of time into my decision..we can’t even seem to get enough women out there to make a differance..too. too bad
November 17th, 2007 at November 17, 2007 - 6:19 amThis is nothing but yet another reason to attack and smear Hillary. I actually thought it was a pretty valid question.
November 17th, 2007 at November 17, 2007 - 7:08 amShe Likes Purple: I did read a rumor that the gal had in fact some valid questions to ask, but this was the one that was “approved”. Funny how none of the guys had frilly questions approved.
mauniejames: I totally agree….
And as for the previous post - ARE YOU SERIOUS! I think you may need brain surgery. I just hope this was posted by one of these “spam robots” and not by a real person. If so…. did you even read the post?
November 17th, 2007 at November 17, 2007 - 9:05 amMissed it I’m afraid but I would imagine that it’s pretty typical - the lowest of the low.
November 17th, 2007 at November 17, 2007 - 1:08 pmCheers
I agree that was an opportunity wasted. I’m guessing it was a misplaced attempt at revealing the “soft, feminine side” of Hillary. This is a stretch, but it could also have been a trick question, what with all the hype about the diamond trade caused by movies like “Blood Diamond.” But yeah, dumb question!
November 17th, 2007 at November 17, 2007 - 2:18 pmWell we ever shed our image? Here’s our chance to win the votes — and we start talking about pearls? Diamonds? PLEASE — and was that a robot?
November 18th, 2007 at November 18, 2007 - 9:56 amI missed it! I think yes perhaps it was to show a softer side to her? But I didn;t see it so can’t say!
November 18th, 2007 at November 18, 2007 - 11:33 amPS linked ya!
November 18th, 2007 at November 18, 2007 - 11:33 amrimarama- I wondered about it being a trick question too. But I still agree…. dumb dumb dumb never-the-less.
susiej- as for the robot- never did find out. Be GONE damn robots!
November 18th, 2007 at November 18, 2007 - 11:38 amI really don’t believe we have, or ever will have, any real honesty from our politicians. Why is that? The reason is that they are controlled by the people who “manage” them to get elected. CNN certainly stacked the deck with a pro-hillary audience and gave a woman an “airhead” question to ask. Shows that CNN doesn’t respect women or our intelligence. I do feel sorry for the young lady who was in the position to ask the question but I do wish she had stood up to CNN and asked something worthy of the rest of us. I bet she wishes it too
November 18th, 2007 at November 18, 2007 - 3:41 pmUp next … boxers or briefs? And for Hillary … underwire or not? Yeesh.
November 19th, 2007 at November 19, 2007 - 8:29 amdefinitely underwire…..
November 19th, 2007 at November 19, 2007 - 11:51 amI was sooooo incredibly offended and irate when I saw that question during the debate! They would never ask one of the male candidates a ridiculous question like that. I feel like the entire women’s movement just took a gigantic step backwards! The limited time during a debate should only be used for serious political questions, not crap like that. I don’t give a damn what kind of jewelry my candidate prefers, I want to know how he/she plans to lead my country. That girl should have had the backbone to ask a REAL question given the chance. What a waste.
